The GISSV San Francisco community celebrated its much-anticipated campus expansion this week.
What a big milestone for GISSV San Francisco! Our growing campus moved into an additional building and celebrated the much-anticipated expansion with an opening ceremony on Monday, May 1. All GISSV San Francisco students and teachers, as well as many parents, were in attendance as Michael Koops, Head of School, Martin Walter, Principal of Berkeley/East Bay and San Francisco, Kareen Weissenberg and Cay Horstmann, GISSV Board Members, and Mark Van de Wiel, GISSV San Francisco PA President, recognized this important step for the campus community and ceremoniously opened 5 Funston Avenue for school operations.
The students of grades 1 and 2, whose classes are the first to move into 5 Funston, proudly and enthusiastically cut the ribbon together to mark the official inauguration of the building. After their homeroom teachers received the keys, all attendees toured the building and were delighted to see the bright, beautiful classrooms and the family tree posted on the wall created by parent volunteers, featuring all GISSV San Francisco families.
Students and teachers are now settling in to their new classrooms and enjoying this important change. The relocation of the first grade class also opened up more space for the Kindergarten to use for circle time and project-based learning in 4 Funston.
The addition of 5 Funston brought GISSV San Francisco a significant step closer towards long-term sustainability and continuous growth for our international campus community, which the students excitedly represented by holding small handmade flags of their countries of origin during the ceremony. Our sincere thank you goes to all the parent volunteers who actively supported this expansion from start to finish with their time, resourcefulness and enthusiasm, helping GISSV find an additional building, move into 5 Funston and hold such a lovely and mission-aligned opening ceremony.
