Written by Julia Goebel, Grade 12
On the evening of Tuesday, February 28, four fresh-faced students lined up to give their respective speeches. For five minutes, each student took the floor and addressed a topic close to heir hearts. This commenced the GISSV's first participation in Interact District 5170's annual Speech Competition.
Sarah Kuehberger (10) began, outlining her passion and resilience while creating and leading the GISSV's Model United Nations Club. She was succeeded by Ole Lee (11), who addressed inclusion and love in an impressive impromptu. Third up was Ricardo Salazar (10), approaching the issue of education policy, and Emilia Rossmann (10) concluded the speeches with a fiery take on global warming. She won the contest, followed by Ole and third place, Sarah. Emilia Rossmann is advancing to the Area speech contest, where she will step up against student winners from other schools on Tuesday, March 21 at the Courtyard Marriott at 6:30 pm. The GISSV wishes her success in her pursuit of spreading her thoughts on the world.
