Student Exchange

GISSV Mountain View students write about the experiences they gained during their recent three-week student exchange to Chile and France.

In my opinion, my three-week stay in Valparaiso was an priceless experience that I would recommend to anyyone who has the opportunity to participate in a student exchange program! My host family welcomed me with open arms and took me on two trips within three weeks: one to the South of Chile (by plane!) and one to the North. These trips showed me how different the landscape, vegetation and climate are at those locations. We were also immediately included by our classmates in school and, despite my rusty Spanish skills, the communication worked out really well. This made me realize that my worries that I wouldn't understand anything or anyone was unfounded. All in all, the exchange was a full success—I was able to improve my social skills and also had the opportunity to get to know new food, new people and new places and to gain new experiences that I will never forget!

My exchange to France was one of the most fun and interesting thing I have ever done. I visited the city, went wakeboarding, played tennis and did lots of other fun activities. My host family owns a beautiful house in the woods which we visited from time to time. I also tried a bunch of new food like escargots and bulot.

Overall, I had a very nice time in France and I wish I could do it again.
