SUMMER IMMERSION CAMP 2017 @ GISSV MOUNTAIN VIEW
German language classes + art, music, science, sports, cooking and more!
June 19 - July 14, 2017
The GISSV Saturday School is excited to once again offer a German Immersion Summer Camp. Our combination of morning language classes and engaging afternoon activities offers a unique opportunity for kids to learn and play in German!
The German Immersion Summer Camp is for children ages 6-16. Prior knowledge of German is not required.
Update 3/20: Responding to popular request, we will also offer a KinderCamp for ages 4-5. KinderCamp will follow its own curriculum in our Kindergarten classrooms. Prior knowledge of German is not required.
Extended care is available for a maximum day from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.KinderCamp follows the same tuition schedule as regular camp. Please note that all other information on this website pertains to information about regular camp for children Ages 6-16.
Four Weeks of Full-Day Camp
1. WEEK 6/19 - 6/23
2. WEEK 6/26 - 6/30
3. WEEK 7/3, 7/5-7/7 (no class on July 4th)
4. WEEK 7/10 - 7/14
Our language curriculum runs for two weeks. Therefore, we recommend signing up for two weeks at a time, i.e. from 6/19 to 6/30 or from 7/3 to 7/14. Students may sign up for one week of camp only if they choose week 1 or week 3. Students who enroll for all four weeks receive a discount.
This is a full-day camp from 9 am to 4 pm, M-F, with extended care available for a maximum day from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. It is possible to attend half-day, but then students can only choose the morning language classes from 9 am to 1 pm (plus morning extended care from 7:30 to 9 am if needed). Half-day students must be picked up at 1 pm.
Morning Language Classes
Students have language classes from 9 am to noon each day of camp. Language classrooms grades 1-8 will be formed each week based on current enrolled students’ age and knowledge of German, with special sections offered for students who are total newcomers to the language. All classrooms are small, so students will receive individual attention with listening, speaking, reading and writing.
In the morning, our staff exclusively teaches in German to provide a truly immersive learning environment.
The summer camp classes use the DaZ curriculum (Deutsch als Zweitsprache; German as a second language). All required books are included in the tuition and will be handed out on the first day of class.
Families looking for a half-day camp may enroll only in morning language classes.
To balance out the studious mornings, our afternoons are packed with interesting, fun and physical activities ranging from art to soccer to science, cooking, yoga and music. All activities are mixed-age.
Afternoon activities are held in both German and English, though with a continued emphasis on German vocabulary-building and conversational language development. The afternoon activities are largely taught by the same instructors who already know the students from morning language classes.
Following a supervised lunch from 12 to 1 pm, there are two afternoon activity slots, from 1 to 2:20 pm, and from 2:35 to 4 pm. In each slot, we offer five different activities that also vary from week to week. Students choose ONE activity for EACH slot, for one week at a time.
Click here for full descriptions of all afternoon activities we will offer over the 4 weeks of camp. Not each activity is available each week.
