Bike-to-School Day at GISSV San Francisco
Bike-to-School Day at GISSV San Francisco

The walk and Bike-to-School Day was a huge success!

Together with 87 schools in San Francisco, GISSV participated in the city wide Bike-to-School Day event – and it was a huge success! Led by parent volunteers, over 40% of our students either walked or biked to our Presidio campus.

Many bike paths led to the Presidio:

Leyna (1st grade) rode her bike from North Beach.
Cordelia (2nd grade) rode her bike all the way from the Inner Sunset.
Luka (3rd grade) and Lena (5th grade) rode their bike all the way from Bernal Heights and met up with Sophia and Jacob (4th graders), Abril, Amber, Darel and Quinn (6th graders) who biked from Noe Valley and the Mission.

Great job everyone!

Thank you to Till Straumann and Michael Bürgi for leading the bikers and thank you to Meghan Stobbe and Corinna Haebe for leading the walks! Thank you to Maria Abad Jara and Beate Antonich for welcoming the children with refreshments! And thank you to the San Francisco GISSV Green Team for organizing and coordinating and to Alexander Troy for videotaping the event – see here.

As a additional highlight our third and fourth graders started their bike safety training at the Presidio YMCA – a three-week program in partnership with the YMCA and part of the German curriculum.
