Thanks to GISSV parent and SOFIA team member Dr.-Ing. Enrico Pfüller!
Our 10th and 11th graders got a special presentation on the Flying Observatory SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy) today – a project in partnership between NASA and the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
SOFIA observes the solar system and beyond at mid- and far-infrared wavelengths gathering data to study in ways that are not possible with ground-based telescopes: Star birth and death, formation of new solar systems, and the identification of complex molecules in space.
