7th Graders Learn About the Dangers of Drug Abuse

Students explored the effects of drug abuse and heard from Officer T. Low during Anti-Drug Day.

Our 7th-grade students from GISSV's Mountain View and San Francisco campuses took part in an educational Anti-Drug Day, where they delved into the physical, mental, and social effects of drug abuse. The day was organized as an interdisciplinary event, combining lessons from both Biology and Ethics classes to address the topic from a health and societal perspective.

In the Biology and Ethics classrooms, students explored the dangers of drug consumption, discussing its impacts on the body and society. As part of the learning experience, students created posters to visually represent the key points of their discussions, highlighting the consequences of drug abuse.

A special highlight of the day was the visit from Officer Thomas Low of the Mountain View Police Department. Officer Low shared his expertise and real-life experiences related to the topic. Additionally, he brought impairment goggles that simulate the effects of reduced alertness and coordination caused by drugs. This hands-on demonstration allowed students to experience firsthand how impaired reaction time and depth perception can affect decision-making and physical abilities.

The Anti-Drug Day provided students with important knowledge and practical insights, reinforcing the importance of making healthy, informed choices. It was an impactful way to raise awareness about drug abuse and its far-reaching consequences on individuals and communities.
