Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, sent our community his greetings, as well as his congratulations on our anniversary.
Email to the GISSV Community from Kathrin Roeschel, GISSV Head of School:
Last weekend our GISSV's 20th birthday was meant to be celebrated at a special gala. Even if the gala had to be postponed, and we can't celebrate in the traditional sense, there is still a great opportunity to feel honored and appreciated.
The Head of State of the Federal Republic of Germany, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, sent our community his greetings, as well as his congratulations on GISSV's 20th anniversary.
Just the fact that the president, in these times of worldwide crisis, has taken the time to send us this message, shows the unique value of our commitment and our work for our German International School in Mountain View and San Francisco.
In a time in which we would surely rather celebrate this birthday in a carefree and safe manner, partying within six feet of one another, the corona-pandemic forces us to instead show strength and solidarity. As Frank-Walter Steinmeier said, "the coronavirus doesn't stop at any borders." This is, of course, a dire statement, but it is also meant as encouragement. Encouragement to show our strength not only as a school community but as a German school abroad and German cultural institution in California.
Performing to our high standards and keeping our educational goals in focus is, especially during these trying times, quite the challenge, but it is one that we, as the GISSV community, can accomplish.
Happy Birthday GISSV!
