A Musical Journey to Scotland: Bagpipes in Music Class

As part of their musical world journey, students in grades 6a and 6b experienced a live introduction to Scottish bagpipes and traditional Celtic music.

Today, students in Classes 6a and 6b at our Mountain View campus had the unique opportunity to meet Olivia Siemer and hear the powerful sound of the Scottish Highland pipes live. Invited by music teacher Ms. Roedig, Olivia presented the instrument and shared insights into the rich tradition of Celtic music during music class.

This visit supported the current unit Musikalische Weltreise (“Musical World Journey”), in which students explore diverse musical traditions around the globe. Having already read about and listened to examples of Celtic music, students were excited to connect their classroom learning to a real-world performance. Olivia's presentation gave them a deeper appreciation for the living tradition of “trad” music and the cultural significance of the bagpipes.

This visit made a lasting impression and inspired students to listen with open ears and curiosity to music from across the world.
