About
- Welcome to GISSV
  The German International School of Silicon Valley is an independent, nonprofit preschool–grade 12 school with two locations in the San Francisco Bay Area.
- Learning in German and English
  Our high-quality dual-immersion education helps students reach their full potential in a stimulating environment that fosters critical and imaginative thinking, a passion for lifelong learning and an appreciation for cultural diversity.
Admissions
- Meeting Students’ Needs From Preschool Through High School
  GISSV welcomes students of all cultural and ethnic backgrounds. We serve students from two to eighteen years old.
- Enrollment
  The enrollment period begins during the months of January and February of each year for the upcoming school year. We also accept new students throughout the school year based on availability. Knowledge of the German language is required for all children who enroll after 1st grade (See also our German Fast Track Program).

A Musical Journey to South India

Grade 6 students explored the rich traditions of Carnatic music through an interactive presentation featuring listening examples, singing, rhythm exercises, and traditional instruments.

As part of their current “Musical World Tour” unit, our Grade 6 students at the Mountain View campus embarked on a musical journey to South India.

Savitha Anil Kumar, whom many students already know from our Afternoon Club, visited the music classroom to introduce students to Carnatic music, the classical music tradition of South India. Through engaging listening examples, students discovered the distinctive sounds, rhythms, and structures that make this musical tradition unique.

The presentation also included a variety of hands-on activities. Students practiced rhythm exercises, learned a song, and had the opportunity to see and try out traditional instruments. These interactive elements allowed them to experience the music firsthand and gain a deeper appreciation for its cultural and artistic significance.

The session was a wonderful addition to the “Musical World Tour” unit, helping students broaden their understanding of global musical traditions while fostering curiosity about cultures from around the world.
