Building Bridges, Building Skills

Building Bridges, Building Skills

3rd graders explore engineering through a hands-on bridge-building Siemens-Academia workshop.

Last week, our Mountain View 3rd graders took part in an engaging, hands-on engineering workshop connected to their English unit on bridges.

Inspired by the Siemens Hour of Engineering initiative, students explored what makes bridges strong and how engineers design structures that are both stable and lightweight. They also learned about the forces acting on bridges and how thoughtful design impacts real-world solutions.

Putting their knowledge into practice, students worked in teams to design, build, and test their own bridges. They measured how much weight their structures could carry and discovered firsthand the importance of collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving.

This experience not only deepened their understanding of engineering concepts but also brought our school’s focus on Future Skills to life.

We extend our sincere thanks to Siemens-Academia Ambassador Inga Becker and our dedicated teachers for making this inspiring learning experience possible.
