Ready, Set, Go! Bundesjugendspiele 2026

Students in grades 1–5 took part in this year’s Bundesjugendspiele—celebrating athletic effort, teamwork, and a cherished German school tradition.

Last week, GISSV students in grades 1–5 enthusiastically participated in the Bundesjugendspiele, a long-standing German school sports tradition. The event took place on Thursday in San Francisco and continued on Friday at our Mountain View campus, offering two days filled with movement, motivation, and school spirit.

The Bundesjugendspiele—literally “Federal Youth Games”—have been a central part of school life in Germany for decades. Traditionally held nationwide, they encourage students to take part in track and field activities such as running, jumping, and throwing. Rather than focusing solely on competition, the program emphasizes participation, personal achievement, and physical development, with students earning recognition for their individual efforts.

At GISSV, students embraced this spirit across a range of disciplines, testing their skills, supporting one another, and celebrating progress. While individual performances were recognized, the true highlight of the Bundesjugendspiele was the strong sense of teamwork and community. Classmates cheered each other on, shared in successes, and demonstrated resilience and determination throughout the events.

Events like these not only promote physical activity but also strengthen connections across classes and campuses. It was inspiring to see our students engage so wholeheartedly with this important tradition.

A heartfelt thank you goes to our dedicated teachers and the many parent volunteers whose support ensured the smooth organization and success of both event days.
