California Coastal Cleanup Day: GISSV Families in Action

GISSV families and staff collected 25 pounds of trash during California Coastal Cleanup Day along Permanente Creek.

On Saturday, September 20, GISSV families and staff joined the statewide California Coastal Cleanup Day and helped clear litter along the Permanente Creek Trail, starting and ending at Shoreline Lake.

Together, the group collected about 25 pounds of trash. Among the usual plastics, some unusual finds stood out—a yellow feather boa, a necklace with pendant, a well-preserved ball, and as the highlight, a large stuffed animal. Everyone took part with great enthusiasm, showing once again that even small groups can make a big impact.

A big thank you goes to Ms. Rahnema and Ms. McKellar for organizing this effort, and to the participating families for their commitment to protecting the environment—our very own GISSV Eco Heroes!

The next Cleanup Day will take place in May at the Stevens Creek Trail, and we are already signed up. We encourage more families to join—it’s a meaningful and fun way to spend time together while making a difference.
