Celebrating World Poetry Day Across Our Campuses

From spring poems to powerful performances, students across both campuses brought words to life in a vibrant celebration of creativity and self-expression.

Last Friday, our campuses came alive with the power of words as we celebrated World Poetry Day. A heartfelt thank you to our English and German Departments for creating such a meaningful and memorable experience.

At our San Francisco campus, younger students embraced poetry with enthusiasm and joy. Grade 1 and 3 students shared spring-themed poems with one another, creating a warm and collaborative atmosphere. The first graders also impressed with their own original poems, reflecting on themselves with creativity and confidence.

Meanwhile, at our Mountain View campus, the MV Poetree transformed a simple space into a living gallery of student expression. Poems displayed on a tree and surrounding walls invited students, staff, and visitors to pause, read, and reflect.

A highlight of the day was the Poetry Slam, where students from Grades 5–8 took the stage to perform their original work. Their pieces ranged from humorous to deeply personal, showcasing not only literary talent but also courage and authenticity. With the library turned into an inviting performance space, students from both campuses captivated the audience and supported one another, creating an inspiring and inclusive atmosphere.

World Poetry Day reminds us of the power of language to connect, inspire, and give voice to our thoughts and experiences. It was a day filled with creativity, confidence, and community—one that truly celebrated the art of poetry.

Established by UNESCO, World Poetry Day recognizes poetry as a powerful bridge between cultures, fostering creativity, dialogue, and connection. Learn more: https://www.unesco.org/en/days/poetry
