DDC Brings Breakdance to GISSV

DDC Brings Breakdance to GISSV

Students in Grades 8 and 9 traded their desks for the dance floor during an interactive breakdance workshop with two-time world champions DDC from Schweinfurt, Germany.

Students in Grades 8 and 9 recently had the opportunity to experience urban dance up close during an interactive workshop with DDC, a two-time world champion breakdance group from Schweinfurt, Germany.

The day began with a school-wide assembly, where the DDC dancers introduced themselves and gave students a glimpse into their work as professional performers. While the other students headed back to class, our 8th and 9th graders stayed for a hands-on workshop.

The session introduced students to core breakdancing techniques, rhythm, physical coordination, and group choreography. Working together and learning from the professional dancers, students quickly got moving — and were rewarded with a surprise performance by the DDC crew.

DDC is currently visiting the San Francisco Bay Area at the invitation of the German Consulate General in San Francisco for a series of events celebrating German culture and international exchange.

We are grateful to the German Consulate General for bringing DDC to GISSV and to the DDC crew for sharing their energy, skills, and passion for dance with our students.

And the Bay Area will have another opportunity to see DDC perform this Sunday, September 27, at German Day in Golden Gate Park. They’ll be bringing their breakdance skills to the event — and, in keeping with the occasion, performing in Lederhosen!
