Exploring Identity, History, and Belonging

During Ethics Project Week, Grade 9 students examined questions of identity, migration, and justice through research, fieldwork, and creative exhibition projects.

As part of Ethics Project Week, our 9th grade students engaged in an interdisciplinary exploration of ethnic communities in the United States as well as in Germany and across Europe. Drawing on geography, history, and ethics, students investigated how identity and lived experience are shaped by migration, historical developments, and ongoing questions of justice, representation, and belonging.

A key component of the week was a field trip to San Francisco’s Mission District. During a mural walk and a guided neighborhood tour led by GISSV teacher Mr. Giesen, students learned about the area’s rich immigrant history and the role of public art in expressing cultural identity and social movements.

The week culminates in student presentations on Friday, January 23, at the Mountain View campus, held in front of the school. The exhibition features a mix of visual displays and digital elements, inviting visitors to interact with the projects, scan QR codes, and test their knowledge.
