Magic Meets Learning: See how Germany’s famous magicians brought a hands-on learning experience to GISSV students.

Magic and meaningful learning came together at GISSV this fall.

We’re excited to share that GISSV is featured in the ZDF documentary Ehrlich Brothers – Road to Las Vegas, which follows Germany’s best-known magician duo on their first U.S. tour. The film includes scenes filmed at our Mountain View campus, where the magicians met with our middle school students.

The visit connected directly with our German curriculum:

In middle school, students develop procedural writing skills—a key part of language learning—by performing and explaining magic tricks. This allows them to practice active and passive voice in an engaging, real-world context. The Ehrlich Brothers’ visit brought this unit to life in a way that was both academically rigorous and genuinely fun.

As part of the experience, the magicians invited our 6th and 7th graders to their live show in San Jose and later visited GISSV in person. Together with their fantastic team, they demonstrated tricks, answered questions, and inspired students with their creativity and passion.

Authentic encounters like these reinforce our hands-on, meaningful approach to German learning—even here in California—and create memorable moments that stay with students long after the lesson ends.

You can now watch the documentary on the ZDF Mediathek, view our accompanying video message, and revisit our earlier article about the show and campus visit.
