GISSV Joins GABA Sommerfest for an Afternoon of Community and Connection

On Sunday, August 30, GISSV joined the German-American community for the annual GABA Sommerfest at Twin Pines Park in Belmont. In partnership with GABA Northern California, families, friends, and community members gathered for a relaxed afternoon of good food, drinks, conversation, and summer fun.

GISSV was excited to contribute to the festivities with a variety of activities for children, including face painting, button making, and cornhole games. The GISSV activity area quickly became a lively spot for children and families to get creative, play, and connect.

A special thank you goes to our GISSV volunteers — and especially our student volunteers — who helped run the activities and brought their energy and enthusiasm to the event. Their involvement was a wonderful example of the way GISSV students contribute to and engage with the wider community.

The afternoon also provided an opportunity for GISSV families and staff to connect with members of GABA, friends of the school, and representatives of the broader German-American community. We were pleased to share the afternoon with GABA Executive Director Dr. Jeannet Kiessling, German Consul General Theo Kidess, and members of the GISSV leadership team and Board of Directors.

Events like the GABA Sommerfest highlight the strong connections that bring together the German-American community across the Bay Area. For GISSV, they are also an opportunity to build relationships beyond the school campus and to give our students meaningful opportunities to participate in the community around them.

A heartfelt thank you to GABA Northern California for hosting this wonderful Sommerfest and for partnering with GISSV to bring our communities together. We look forward to continuing this connection and to many more opportunities to celebrate together!
