About
- Welcome to GISSV
  The German International School of Silicon Valley is an independent, nonprofit preschool–grade 12 school with two locations in the San Francisco Bay Area.
- Learning in German and English
  Our high-quality dual-immersion education helps students reach their full potential in a stimulating environment that fosters critical and imaginative thinking, a passion for lifelong learning and an appreciation for cultural diversity.
Admissions
- Meeting Students’ Needs From Preschool Through High School
  GISSV welcomes students of all cultural and ethnic backgrounds. We serve students from two to eighteen years old.
- Enrollment
  The enrollment period begins during the months of January and February of each year for the upcoming school year. We also accept new students throughout the school year based on availability. Knowledge of the German language is required for all children who enroll after 1st grade (See also our German Fast Track Program).

The German Language Community in the Bay Area recently came together at the Excelsior German Center in Oakland to honor students who completed the DSD I & DSD II (German Language Diploma of the German Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs) exams during the 2025/26 school year.

We are proud to share that 18 GISSV students took the DSD exams last school year and received their diplomas. Some were presented with their diplomas at the award ceremony, while others received them in the days following directly from their German teachers at school.

Held with support from the German Consulate General in San Francisco, the ceremony brought together more than 130 DSD graduates from across the Bay Area, along with their families and teachers. It was an opportunity for the community to recognize the students’ dedication to learning German and to celebrate their achievement.

GISSV was represented at the ceremony by teachers Dr. Martin Dillmann and Hannah Wexler, who joined students, families, educators, and members of the German-speaking community for the occasion.

Congratulations to all of our GISSV DSD graduates on this important achievement!
