Hands-On STEM: Students Explore CAD with Siemens

8th Graders from Mountain View and San Francisco campuses experienced the world of engineering firsthand, creating personalized keychains in GISSV’s makerspace.

This week, all 8th graders from GISSV’s Mountain View and San Francisco campuses participated in a hands-on STEM workshop led by Siemens professionals Douglas Stainbrook and Inga Becker — one of our own GISSV parents.

During the workshop, students explored CAD design using Siemens’ Solid Edge software, designing their own personalized keychains. They then brought their digital creations to life by 3D printing them in the school’s makerspace.

The workshop offered more than just technical skills: it gave students an authentic glimpse into what it is like to work as an engineer at a global technology company. Initiatives like this are part of Siemens’ commitment to inspiring the next generation of engineers and innovators, providing students with practical experience and fostering curiosity in STEM fields from an early age.

A big thank-you to the Siemens team and to our teachers, Mr. Ralf Jess and Ms. Weidlich, for making this inspiring workshop possible. Experiences like these help spark creativity, build technical confidence, and show students the exciting possibilities in STEM.
