About
- Welcome to GISSV
  The German International School of Silicon Valley is an independent, nonprofit preschool–grade 12 school with two locations in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Admissions
- Meeting Students’ Needs From Preschool Through High School
  GISSV welcomes students of all cultural and ethnic backgrounds. We serve students from two to eighteen years old.
- Enrollment
  The enrollment period begins during the months of January and February of each year for the upcoming school year. We also accept new students throughout the school year based on availability. Knowledge of the German language is required for all children who enroll after 1st grade (See also our German Fast Track Program).

High School Transatlantic AI Project

High School students kicked off an interdisciplinary, transatlantic project researching the impact of developments in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

Together with the 11th grade of the ESG (Evangelisches Stiftisches Gymnasium) from Gütersloh, Germany our GISSV 10th graders kicked off an interdisciplinary, transatlantic project researching the impact of developments in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

From February to March the students will work in mixed project groups on their own research about the ethical, economic, political and social impact of AI. They will create an interactive presentation to present their findings using various media.

For the kick-off meeting on February 19, 2020 Joaquin Quiñonero Candela, Director for Applied Machine Learning at Facebook, gave a short presentation as an introduction to the topic. Daniela Behrendt, expert for agile learning, presented popular project management methodologies to support the students in their work process. Thank you for the fascinating insights!

Die Schülerinnen und Schüler aus Klasse 10 forschen von Februar bis März innerhalb eines fächerübergreifenden, transatlantischen Projekts über die Auswirkungen der Entwicklungen im Bereich der Künstlichen Intelligenz (KI). Zusammen mit der Jahrgangsstufe 11 des ESG (Evangelisches Stiftisches Gymnasium) aus Gütersloh, Deutschland, untersuchen sie in Projektgruppen eine selbstgewählte Forschungsfrage über die ethischen, ökonomischen, politischen und sozialen Auswirkungen von KI und fertigen hierzu unter dem Einsatz verschiedener Medien eine interaktive Präsentation an.

Zum Auftakt des Projektes fand am 19. Februar 2020 eine Videokonferenz statt, in denen sich die Schülerinnen und Schüler der beiden Schulen kennen lernten und ein Experte aus der Wirtschaft, Joaquin Quiñonero Candela (Director for Applied Machine Learning bei Facebook), spannende Einblicke in den Themenbereich gab. Daniela Behrendt, Expertin für Agiles Lernen, stellte zudem moderne Methoden der Projektarbeit vor, die den Schülerinnen und Schülern bei ihren Arbeitsprozessen unterstützen sollen.
