Congratulations to GISSV 9th grader Fiona H. who will attend the North American final in Washington D.C. in October 2022.
This year, the International debate competition Jugend debattiert in North America - for German schools in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico - is taking place for the second time. In this context, our 9th graders not only debated with each other as part of their German lessons, but four of them also took part in the North America regional finals of the West Coast, in which students from various schools from the region compete with and against each other.
Congratulations to GISSV 9th grader Fiona H. who won this round of the competition on May 21, 2022 and thus qualified for the North American final in Washington D.C. in October!
"The youth debate community has been growing for twenty years. Around 200,000 students and 7,500 teachers from 1,400 schools are taking part in Germany. And German learners in over 30 countries - in Europe, Asia, South and North America." "At Jugend debattiert everyone's a winner." On the occasion of the 20th anniversary in 2021, patron of the initiative Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said: “We are even more aware today - than when the initiative was founded 20 years ago - of how much we need the ability to debate, to engage in fair and qualified arguments. We need fair and lively debates instead of fake news. Debates that respect other opinions and do so without violence and the threat of violence. [...]" (~www.jugend-debattiert.de)
