Off to Toronto: Students Reach Jugend debattiert Finals

Two GISSV students have qualified for the Jugend debattiert North America Finals and will represent the school in Toronto this October.

Just two weeks after our Jugend debattiert school competition, we are delighted to share exciting news from the regional level:

At the regional competitions held this past weekend, two of our students successfully qualified for the Jugend debattiert North America Finals. Congratulations to Rania S. (Grade 10, Mountain View) and Sylvia J. (Grade 8, San Francisco), who stood out with their strong argumentation skills, critical thinking, and confident presence.

The regional rounds brought together students from German-speaking schools across North America. Among the wide range of thought-provoking topics, one debate explored whether humanity should actively pursue the colonization of other planets—an example of the complex and relevant issues participants engaged with.

In October, Rania and Sylvia will join 14 other finalists from Canada, Mexico, and the United States at the final competition in Toronto.

We would also like to recognize Wiebke M., our recent school champion, who represented GISSV at the regional level—an achievement to be equally proud of.

Our sincere thanks go to the dedicated teachers M.D. and H.W. for their guidance, support, and thoughtful evaluation throughout the process.

We congratulate all participants on their achievements and wish Rania and Sylvia continued success at the finals in Toronto.
