Reading Project on Diversity Kicked Off

Blake Peter, Head of GSPDX and Kathrin Röschel, Head of GISSV together with Elementary School students kicked off our interactive, cross-level and cross-school campaign.

Blake Peter, Head of the German International School Portland (GSPDX) and Kathrin Röschel, Head of the German International School of Silicon Valley (GISSV) together with Elementary School students from both schools kicked off our interactive, cross-level and cross-school campaign: The reading project on diversity (Vorleseprojekt).

In the further course the project will bring together Secondary School students from GISSV Mountain View and the children in the school entry level through grade 5 in Portland, San Francisco, and Mountain View through reading out loud and the creative presentation of children's books on diversity-related topics (in German).

One of the goals of the project is - while promoting the German language - to set up an interactive and motivating learning environment not just for the younger students but also for our secondary school students who present a book/topic.

In January 2021 our school libraries in Portland, San Francisco and Mountain View received a variety of new books from Germany which allow the students to explore different topics in a contemporary and age-appropriate way. (Read on here: http://bit.ly/3bP9kTD)

Our very first participants had a lot of fun and we are looking forward to more exciting 'Vorlesestunden' (reading sessions)!
