Research Meets Practice: AI in the Classroom

Leading education researchers visit GISSV to explore how artificial intelligence is already shaping teaching and learning in real time.

This week, GISSV welcomed Dr. Tim Fütterer and Luise Mehner from the Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology at the University of Tübingen for a full day of classroom visits and professional exchange.

The visit focused on how artificial intelligence is already being meaningfully integrated into everyday teaching and learning at GISSV. Through classroom observations and discussions with teachers and students, the researchers gained direct insight into how innovative practices are being implemented in real learning environments.

Notably, Dr. Fütterer’s research on the role of AI in education is currently featured as the cover story in Der Spiegel—highlighting the relevance of this work far beyond the classroom.

A particular highlight of the visit was Grade 11’s interdisciplinary “Jack Tramiel” programming project. Students demonstrated a live AI transformation of a photo into C64-style pixel art, creatively combining historical computing aesthetics with modern AI tools in a technical challenge.

The exchange provided valuable insights for both sides and strongly supports GISSV’s PLC Future Ready initiative. We are grateful for the inspiring visit and look forward to continued collaboration at the intersection of research and practice.
