Our high school students had the pleasure of welcoming bestselling author Thomas Brussig for a special reading of "The Short End of the Sonnenallee" at our Mountain View Campus.
As part of their East German literature project, the students organized the event and even prepared thought-provoking questions for Brussig, which sparked an inspiring discussion with the writer.
The book, Brussig's third work, became a bestseller in 1999, and the film adaptation by Leander Haußmann was the most successful film of the year. Now translated into English by bestselling author Jonathan Franzen, who said, "I couldn't believe that such a clever, witty, winningly readable, and in its method so original, and in its themes so relevant novel had not found a wider international audience."
