Startup Founder visits 9th Grade in Economics Class

Michael Pfeifer, co-founder of the Berlin-based sustainable fashion startup MOOT talked about sustainable fashion.

Our 9th graders had the opportunity to discuss whether our global production of textiles should be made more local and sustainable with Michael Pfeifer, co-founder of the Berlin-based sustainable fashion startup MOOT [a former student of Mr. Lentzen]. MOOT wants to raise awareness for ethical consumption and value the work of all those involved in production again - and they do this by having fair and environmentally conscious production.

The visit was our final discussion in our unit about globalization. Students produced podcasts on globalization in this unit, such as shoe production in Vietnam. Our students were baffled by the price of a locally sustainably upcycled t-shirt. Yet, they were impressed by the mission and vision of MOOT. They concluded that the age of globalization might not be over just yet and that we should be more mindful of how we produce goods.
