Success at this Year’s Lange Nacht der Mathematik

Students from both GISSV campuses excelled in this year’s Math Marathon, showing teamwork, perseverance, and festive spirit. Now, we eagerly await the results from Germany!

This year’s Lange Nacht der Mathematik was a memorable experience for GISSV students from both campuses, who participated together in Mountain View. Every team successfully completed the first two rounds well before 11 pm, giving Grades 7–12 plenty of time to focus on the third and final round. With these extra hours, the students carefully worked through their problems and submitted their answers to Germany. We now wait eagerly for the official results.

For Grades 5/6, there was no third round this year, but the younger students still achieved a significant milestone. After barely advancing past Round 1 last year, they completed Round 2 well before 8 pm. Some of these students assisted the older teams, demonstrating impressive teamwork and mentoring skills, while others celebrated the start of the holiday season with a screening of The Grinch.

Throughout the night, students demonstrated remarkable perseverance and collaboration. Many stayed until the very end, supported by parents, teachers, and alumni—even some who joined online until after 3 am CET to contribute their expertise. Short breaks helped younger students recharge with pizza and playful basketball sessions under the floodlights.

A special thank you goes to the Math Department, all supporting teachers, and the many volunteers whose time and dedication made this Math Marathon possible. Your guidance and support ensured that students could focus, collaborate, and enjoy the experience to the fullest.

This Math Marathon highlighted the spirit of GISSV: students learning together, supporting each other across grades, and tackling challenges with curiosity and determination. Congratulations to all participants for their teamwork, resilience, and festive spirit—this night was truly a wonderful celebration of math and community!
