Learning a new language usually makes people laugh.I certainly did.I laughed through high school German classes in Eureka, California, where I grew up, and through a year in Germany as a high school exchange student, and through upper division college German courses. Of course, languages are serious business.
But I believe humor is our mind's way of bringing enjoyment to the process of learning, while at the same time helping us connect with each other.
I'm lucky to have a job where I work hard but feel more like I'm playing.Students seem to appreciate that, and they have fun working on things together. My greatest enjoyment comes from witnessing their growth.
I teach music, physics, math, and life science in Santa Cruz on weekdays, and I give private music lessons and tutoring. I also perform in two bands on flute, Celtic flute, pennywhistle, saxophone, and lead vocals.
