Gabriele Hesse, 9th Grade Teacher
I was born and raised in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany where I graduated from Cologne University with a teaching degree in Latin and Russian, the 1st State Examination. (1. Staatsexamen für das Lehramt für die Sekundarstufen I und II).

Then, I successfully completed my education with a two-year mandatory traineeship and certificate, the 2nd State Examination, at the Löhrtor Gymnasium Siegen (Referendariat/ 2. Staatsexamen für das Lehramt für die Sekundarstufen I und II). I started teaching 5th to 10th grade at the Evangelische Gymnasium Siegen. Later I became a Latin teacher at the Studienseminar Dillenburg and a German teacher at the IB (Internationaler Bund) Siegen, where I taught German as a second language to Russian immigrants.

I continued my studies in German and Economics at the University of Siegen and obtained additional degrees. In 1992, my family and I moved to the Bay Area/California. While taking care of my young children, I worked as a translator for technology companies for several years and as a parent in the Redwood Parents' Nursery School in Redwood City/Woodside, CA. In 2000 we became one of the founding families of the GISSV. Since 2002, I have been working as the part-time Latin teacher for middle and high school classes at the GISSV: teaching and overseeing the Latinum- examinations. In 2009, I was responsible for the first Latinum at the GISSV.

As an active member of the GISSV, I was a parent representative for many years, and I engaged in many other school activities. Currently, I am also a member of the Afternoon Club staff.
My hobbies are languages, cooking, travelling, singing, playing the organ at church, and spending time with my family.
