Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act

The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is a federal law designed to protect the online privacy and safety of children under the age of 13.

COPPA gives parents greater control over what information may be collected from their children through websites, applications, and online services.

Educational Apps & Online Services

In order for GISSV students to use educational apps, programs, and online services, certain personally identifiable information — generally a student’s name and school email address — may need to be provided to the website or service operator.

COPPA permits schools such as GISSV to consent to the collection of this information on behalf of parents for educational purposes, eliminating the need for individual parental consent directly through each website or operator.

Apps & Privacy Information

GISSV maintains a list of websites, programs, and applications that may collect student information.

The list includes:

  • the name of the application or service
  • the type of information collected
  • a link to the corresponding privacy policy

Please note that teachers may not use all listed applications in every classroom or grade level.

Parent Consent & Questions

By publishing the above list, GISSV assumes parental consent for students to use the listed educational applications and services as part of the school program.

If you do not wish to give consent for your child to use one or more specific applications or websites, please contact the school office or your child’s homeroom teacher.
